Information On Delhi-Mumbai Expressway & Utkarsh India’s Connection With It

The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway connects the country’s capital Delhi to the financial capital Mumbai. It is being built as part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana which is a flagship program of the Government of India. It was first inaugurated on 12th February 2023 by the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi. The expressway is 1380 km long and passes through Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. It is an eight lane expressway  that is meant to reduce the travel time from 24 to 12 hours. The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway was constructed in three phases:


  • Phase 1 was constructed between Sohna and Jaipur which is 82 km long.

  • Phase 2 is being constructed between Jaipur and Vadodara which is 380 km long.  It is expected to reach completion by the end of 2023. 

  • Phase 3 is expected to be constructed between Vadodara and Mumbai and is supposed to be 918 km long. Phase 3 is still under planning and should be completed by the year 2025. 

 

Unique features of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway:


  1. More than 12 lakh tonnes of steel is expected to be used in the construction of the expressway. 

  2. About 80 lakh tonnes of cement is to be used for the project.

  3. The expressway will have an advanced traffic management system.

  4. There will be provisions for rainwater harvesting at regular intervals, with 2000+ water recharge points.

  5. The expressway has been designed to include several measures for wildlife protection, such as animal overpasses and underpasses to enable free movement of wildlife in their natural habitat, making it the first expressway in Asia to have such features.

Government forbids slow-moving vehicles from entering the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway as it has been built as a high-speed corridor with a maximum speed limit of up to 120 km per hour. NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) has issued a notice stating that slow-moving vehicles will not be allowed to enter Phase 1 of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Utkarsh India has supplied safety-assured crash barriers in the Phase 1 of the project.
